Whova was the app that was used for the 2024 COABE Conference which is the National Adult Education Conference. This app had the schedule and the class descriptions available to review and choose so that you were ready to attend the class on time. The Whova app was also used as a central location to pass along any information to attendees. It gave a board for people to communicate with each other. It had other features so that you could create polls (and have some fun).
  • Notifies you of messages
  • Keeps you organized
  • Allows you to interact with others in a safe manner
  • I would like to be able to hide or reorder the community boards so that I can keep what I am interested in on top.
  • I would like to see it not allow the same topic be created on the community board but rather notify you that a board has already been created and ask you if you would like to join that conversation.
  • I would like to be able to color code the agenda so that I can mark the classes I'm interested in, but won't have time to attend (but and go back to if they are virtual later). Then when I am at the conference, I can see the class I am supposed to go to, and not have to keep reviewing the agenda at a later time.
  • I would like to have had a quick how to guide on how to use the Whova app. Actually, I just found it. I think it should be on the home page as a thumbnail so its in your face for those that didn't venture around the app.
  • I would like to be able to mass download all the documents at the end of the conference.
I think Whova is well suited for any event that has a lot of people who need to stay in communication with one another. It is most appropriate for people who have digital skills and a smart phone.

I utilized the app during the NYAR conference. It is very interactive and effective for this type of event. I particularly enjoy the notes feature for the sessions I attended and the ability to have those notes sent to me after the conference was over. I also like that there are many options for networking as well as the ability to download information provided by the presenters.
  • Notes feature, works well and stores all in one place.
  • Networking opportunities, there a variety of ways to network through this platform.
  • The points system makes using the app exciting! Definitely activated the reward center of my brain!
  • More sorting features for posted social polls, once I created one it was difficult to find it again in the sea of others posted. So perhaps a section for polls that were created by me?
Well suited for conferences, or other professional development scenarios where a magnitude of information is to be shared.

We used Whova at the recent MARCON and SMRP conference 2 years ago. Both times it was great to set our agenda and to connect with others attending. The Contests are fun, and engaging. Being able to set up social events after the conference hours is also great to help network with fellow attendees.
  • Agenda
  • Contact exchange between users
  • Contests
  • As a speaker retrieving the polling data was a bit tough sometimes.
  • As a user/attendee sorting the posts would be nice if we could filter out topics that are not interesting to us
  • Time lag between the message in the app and the email sent would be eliminated if a notification was sent when someone messaged you
Conferences are 100% a great place to use them. Almost any public event I would think is good

I used Whova in order to participate in the [...] 2024 conference virtually. Despite a few technical issues mainly pertaining to sound, the app worked perfectly. I think it was a great resource, the conference was extremely informative but I never would have been able to get the time off to attend in person.
  • ease of navigation
  • clear instructions to maneuver within the app
  • quick response time for technical difficulties/ questions.
  • I am not particularly educated when it comes to platform creation, I personally did not have much difficulty navigating. I think the only confusing issue that arose was that of the QR code. Now this may not have been specific to Whova, but more of the [...] conference in general. Once I figured out that the QR code was not necessary I had no further issues.
I had no difficulty at all utilizing the Whova platform by text or by desktop. I found the app to be easy to navigate with clear instructions. I utilized this platform in order to attend a conference virtually, so I cannot speak to its other potential features.

Penn Medicine uses Whova for event management or communication purposes through the Revenue Cycle.
  • Whova provides tools for event organizers to streamline various aspects of event management, including registration, ticketing, agenda creation, and speaker management.
  • Whova's networking features facilitate interaction between attendees. They can connect with each other, set up meetings, and exchange contact information.
  • Attendees can access presentation materials, videos, and other event-related content within the app, enhancing their overall experience.
  • Whova's focus is primarily on virtual and hybrid events. Enhancing features for managing purely offline events or providing solutions for events that require a combination of online and offline management would be valuable.
  • Some users have noted that further enhancements, such as improved screen reader support and keyboard navigation, would make the platform more inclusive.
Whova is great due to its flexibility and the ability to enhance the attendee experience at conferences, expos, and various other types of events.

I used Whova at a recent conference. I found it to be very good and helpful. However, I wanted a directory of all attendees in one place. The way it is set up now, I would have to go into each individual person's profile and get contact information. Very frustrating and time-consuming.
  • Agenda
  • Exhibitors information
  • Speakers Bios
  • A directory of all participant's' names and contact information in one place
I liked the floor map and the opportunity to ask questions for each session. A directory in one place would be helpful.

We used it for the Wounds UK-2023 conference and exhibition organised by the Wounds UK media organisation. They chose the Whova App, and I found it useful to scan clinical delegates, engage with them and then to download the leads. Also to book the scientific sessions that I wanted to attend.
  • Scanning delegates at the event - With the possibility to collect additional info via notes
  • Engaging with clinicians
  • Booking delegates
  • Book scientific sessions
  • Keep a track of number of leads collected
  • Download the leads
  • Ensure that accurate details are collected for customers/delegates at the event
  • Make work email address mandatory
  • Autocorrect was initially not functional - this could be incorporated
  • Setting up to collect Leads can be assigned directly to one person - It was done at the event

I was an in-person delegate and panellist at a recent Aotearoan and Australian health conference that utilised the Whova platform. The conference was hybrid. As I've attended many international and national health conferences, I have experienced different apps and platforms to access programming, content, and connect with colleagues and networks. Whova has been one of the better platforms purely on the basis of engagement with conference delegates and presenters. I contributed to and participated in many discussion threads on topics of interest, shared research and resources with my peers - this kind of engagement hasn't been well facilitated by other platforms in my past experiences. I encourage the developers of Whova platform to focus on providing some accessibility options, such as dark mode, more detailed control over notifications, and text size - perhaps these features are already available and I was too overwhelmed by the notifications to find the accessibility settings. Finally, the chat function was very useful for meeting up with colleagues and peers in person, as well as facilitating new connections with the chat acting as an ice breaker so it was less awkward in person. I was also able to chat with online delegates, a handy feature.
  • facilitated the sharing of research, perspectives, and resources on topics of interest
  • enabled easier connection to new and existing relationships with conference delegates and speakers
  • allowed me to catch up on content I missed due to time conflicts for concurrent sessions
  • accessibility for disabled people and people with disability - visible and hidden e.g. dark mode, fonts and text size, layout, notifications
Whova was appropriate for the purpose of a health conference. I would recommend the platform to other NGOs considering platforms for their conferences, particularly if engagement is a critical process and outcome of the conference. As a health conference that involved people with living experience of the health topics at the conference, i.e. peer workers, peers in professional roles, people from affected communities, engagement was important.

Whova was used at the FCIS Convention 2023 and it was great. I was able to view all of the sessions for each day and chose my sessions that went into "My Agenda". This way I could see the title of the presentation, the presenter's bio, and view the map for location of the session. The presenter was able to post their PowerPoint and other documents for my use. It is very easy to navigate.
  • Personalizes
  • Messaging others
  • Map view
  • listing of presentations/sessions
  • I can't think of anything as it has all the things I needed for the conference
I have only used Whova for conferences and it works great. I really like the ease of it and all of the information is at your fingertips be manage a conference.

Whova was used to facilitate communication during a conference. The ability to generate a personal agenda, respond to other conference attendees, and see live updates of sessions and information was extremely helpful.
  • Organization of materials/information
  • Promote networking and professional dialogue
  • Provide live updates in real time
  • Prioritize push notifications to reduce noise
I have only used Whova in a conference setting where it was very well suited to promoting interprofessional communication, networking, and live updates.

Whova was used for an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Conference in Redmond, WA held in October 2023. Various speakers and conferences were posted, and I could read a summary about different events, see information about the speakers and identify where they were located within a large building. Attendees were also encouraged to RSVP to attend for events with limited seating. I could also see other users who had RSVP'd or were attending the event. Although I did not reach out to other users, I saw that I could connect with other professionals through the app, which is a neat feature. Additionally, I noticed that after conference events, such as social hours and card games were posted with open invitations. I would use this app again for an event like this. The only difficulty I had was anticipated new-user discovery of how the app worked, and which "buttons" to press to navigate the different screens. This new-user learning curve was mastered within 15 minutes of familiarizing myself.
  • Post events
  • Provide details of speakers
  • RSVP
  • Review other attendees
  • Allowed for connecting with others attending the same event
Large conference events are great for this. Any events with multiple locations. Events intended for professionals within the same or similar backgrounds with the intention to make connections and network.

I was introduced to Whova by the Executive MBA Council as the event app to use at the recent 2023 EMBAC Conference
  • Listing additional resources
  • Listing the agenda by sessions and times per day
  • Building a contact directory in real time
  • Real-time alerts/notifications so you can respond quicker!
  • Improve how to rack actual attendance for "Answer a survey" for the Leaderboard. It is currently constructed on an honor system. One could answer a survey for a session they did not attend to get the points!
  • Letting conference registrants know how long the event will be available through the app.
  • Instructions on how to export Bookmarked attendees and Handouts. I had to go online to find out how to export the handouts.
It is well-suited for taking notes during a session. No so well-suited to connect with individuals who aren't using the app. Suggest linking to their work emails too?

I have used it for a conference recently
  • Helped prepare me for the summit
  • Allowed enough time for me before the summit to navigate and learn
  • See who was there at the summit
  • See the agenda
  • Have a clear one point to go to for all information
  • Have an area for general notes - beyond just notes taken for the presentations
  • Have a star/tick list for those people you have connected with
  • Combining the connections you make with Linkedin directly
Great to have all the info at once is great for a conference takes away having to have a map or pen and paper keeps everything together

I used Whova at a conference hosted by the Michigan [..]. I was a speaker discussing your new technology platform. Whova aided with all the conference arrival details, event times and their location. It was an easy download app to connect with venders and additional meet and greet opportunities. I am not much for the point challenge but I did see many participated in the social aspect to the app. I would recommend Whova to other companies that are coordinating big events, it was a useful tool for all user groups.
  • Event Timelines
  • Attendee Lists
  • Participating Vender Lists
  • Personal Areas of Interest Selection List
  • Speaker Timing Schedules need to better regulated. My session started when it was suppose to end for the next speaker. That disrupts the event schedule for attendees that were looking to attend my discussion.
Multiple day conferences and events that are in multiple facility locations are definitely a must. Hotel and shuttle information to and from event are extremely useful for out of towers. Smaller events in one location will most likely not benefit from the app. I could even see this app being used for an out to town wedding app to help coordinate week long events for the attendees and bridal parties, times, locations, parking, shuttles,t ours etc.

I use Whova when I attend ARSL conferences in person or monthly. I plan my schedule with it. I use the floor map to find where I am to go at conferences. I use it to gather information on speakers and programs. I contacted people with whom I wanted to meet via the app.
  • Connects with speakers
  • Provides a place to download documents
  • Was helpful in scheduling programs.
  • Provide better mapping to events
  • Easier way to schedule for events.
  • better note keeping tools.
I found Whova to be a good way to contact vendors to express interest in their products without visiting them in person. I used to to contact speakers after their presentations, to ask questions after a program was completed. I was able to contact attendees after thinking about comments that they made during a presentation.

Whova used for a Growth Summer Retreat with 110 attendees. The app allowed for agenda information, meet ups, questions/answers, groups, etc. It was highly engaging.
  • Ease of use
  • Motivating competition element for leaderboard
  • Attendees' list
  • Some meet ups and groups were highly repetitive
  • It was not easy to see the newest messages in the sub-elements
Well suited:
Large group settings for conferences or retreats.
New attendees list to identify and meet new colleagues.
Group self-guidance on meet ups and topics to chat about.
Session questions and polls.

I was first introduced to Whova when I registered for the Clinical Retreat in Charleston, SC sponsored by SCPHCA. The product allows you to meet and stay connected to other attendees at the retreat, ask questions to the speakers, share information, and complete final surveys.
  • Keep up with all attendees who have signed in on the app.
  • Keeps you informed of changes to the schedule for the event you are registered to attend.
  • Great for networking!
  • On some of the pages you couldn't read the entire name of the session or the question being asked.
  • I couldn't access all the pictures on my phone to add to photos on the app.
  • Too many emails once you sign up and express interest in certain things. Then you get emails from everyone who has a similar interest. At one point it was ok, but then the incoming comments and messages became too much. I tried cutting off notifications, but they still keep coming. I don't want to uninstall the app, because I enjoy looking back on things on Whova to remember the event.
  • You don't get points for everything you do on the app. to help you compete in the leaderboard.
I can only share my one experience, which was at the conference I went to in Charleston. I enjoyed using it. I got to meet new people, speak to the presenters, and ask questions.

We used it for the Inside Out Conference put on by the Children and Nature Network. The app was for us to pick breakout sessions, connect with other attendees, and to receive updates and messages from the conference organizers. We do not use it for our organization specifically. This product helped address getting information out to hundreds of people, and keeping all information in one place - contact info, notes, logistics, etc. It also allowed us to see who was at the conference but lived in our area, so we could seek out those people! We will only use Whova when it is supplied or needed for another event. We will not use Whova outside of this conference probably.
  • Allow people to connect and find each other
  • Sends out information to large amounts of people
  • Has everything in one place
  • It was hard to find the meet ups on the app
  • have more options for filtering conference attendees
  • be able to use offline
It was awesome that there was an option for Q & A in large sessions. But because the wifi was spotty, it was hard to use. It would be cool if there was a way to use Whova offline. It was great to connect with others and to receive information about the whole conference. When there is limited wifi it is (obviously) hard to use!

From my experience, it is used as an event tool to connect participates closer together through organized content.
  • Creates tracking for those who participate
  • Calendar integration with events to stay organizated
  • Connects contacts with exchange of information
  • Intentional posting guardrails. Too easy to get points with one word answers.

I used it for the annual Citygate conference to navigate sessions offered, maps, and social groups.
  • Suggestions to communicate with groups.
  • Encouragement to participate and gain points -fun competition.
  • Calendar reminders
  • Ability to connect/share contact info with other members
  • GPS would be nice
  • Make finding groups easier -the search function did not find the group I made up.
  • Provide links for virtual meet ups on the spot when using app to create meet-ups
I loved the energizing of the event with reminders and explanations on event details and using the app. I also appreciated the easy to use platform. AN interactive map and GPS navigation would be great (if it was avaiable did not see it)!

I used the app while attending the PLECET Conference.
  • Keeping my agenda, with name and location of sessions.
  • Provide ability to review speaker bios and connect.
  • To provide course evaluations.
  • To modify the note taking capabilities.
  • Had difficulties with the QR scanning.
I liked the compactness of having the app on my phone and being with me constantly. It gave me current and updated information concerning the conference. I have used Whova twice as an attendee at the Pennyslvania Music Educators Association Annual In-Service Conference in 2022 and 2023. It is a great platform for information, schedules, and electronic interactions between the organizing committee and the conference attendees.
  • Provides the conference schedule
  • Provides an electronic platform for conference attendees to connect
  • Creates opportunities for conference attendees to find common interests and connect in person.
  • The message boards become very congested at a big conference because anyone can create a thread.
  • I would like to have an easier way to dismiss all notifications on the message boards.
I think Whova is a great platform for keeping things in the palm of your hand at a busy conference like PMEA.

I am a active member of OSNA (Oregon School Nurse Association). This is my second years of using Whova during the OSNA's conferences. I am a strong advocate of having all information from any conference or the like into one medium without killing trees, over/under utilizing staff and being on time consistently. Whova has shown to do all of those requirements that I have. I have resources lined out by OSNA in Whova that I can use at any stop by using my phone or laptop. As a technologically dependent and Deaf school nurse, using Whova allows me to gather all the information I need for the conference, provide questions, enter any polls, meet/interact with members and vendors, And have fun!
  • Lined up agenda and have handouts/presentations available via laptop/phone
  • Allow to interact with members of conference via text
  • No paperwork/clutters
  • Add video of the presentations (and preferably with closed captions)
